It’s easy to reach Windermere Lake Cruises car-free. Use our journey planner to find the best route from where you are. These are the bus services for the four main piers:

 

Bowness Pier, LA23 3HQ – For the Cross Lake Shuttle (to Ferry House), Yellow Cruise (to Lakeside), Red Cruise (tickets can include the Windermere Jetty Museum), Islands (Blue) Cruise, Buffet Cruise, Evening Cruise, Walkers Ticket, and Freedom of the Lake.

  • Bus 6 – Barrow – Ulverston – Newby Bridge – Windermere
  • Bus 599 – Grasmere – Ambleside -Windermere – Bowness
  • Bus 755 – Morecambe -Carnforth -Kendal – Bowness
  • Bus 508 – Penrith – Ullswater – Bowness – Windermere
  • Early morning & evening by bus 555 – Lancaster – Kendal – Windermere

 

Ambleside Pier, LA22 0EY or Brockhole Visitor Centre, LA23 1LJ  – For the Green Cruise (via Wray Castle), Red Cruise (tickets can include the Windermere Jetty Museum), Walkers Ticket and Freedom of the Lake.

  • Bus 555 – Lancaster – Kendal – Windermere – Ambleside – Keswick
  • Bus 599 – Grasmere – Ambleside -Windermere – Bowness
  • Bus 505 – Coniston

 

Lakeside Pier, LA12 8AS (the bus stop is 1 mile away at the Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge) – For the Fell Foot Ferry, Yellow Cruise (to Bowness, tickets can include the Lakeland Motor Museum, Lakes Aquarium, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway) and Freedom of the Lake.

 

The nearest train station is Windermere. From there it’s either a 30-minute walk or 10-minute ride on bus 599 or bus 6.

When you travel by train, a Windermere PlusBus ticket offers unlimited travel on Stagecoach services around Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere by bus.
