It’s easy to visit Verulamium Park car-free. Trains from London St Pancras take 20 minutes (or 35) and stop at all stations on the Thameslink route.

From the station it’s about a 25-minute walk along Victoria Street, then through the scenic town centre, past the Museum and Cathedral. However, plenty of buses run into town or all the way to the cathedral- use our journey planner to find bus times and walking routes. When you travel by train, a St Albans PlusBus ticket gives you unlimited travel within the city.

There are direct trains to St Albans Abbey from Watford Junction (bout 15 mins) and to St Albans City from: London St Pancras International (20 mins), London Bridge (35 min), Bedford (40 mins), Gatwick Airport (65 mins), Sutton (80 mins), Brighton (100 mins) and Rainham (2 hrs 15 mins).

St Albans circular buses stop beside the park (buses S7, S8 and S9), as does bus 302 from Hemel Hemstead (30 mins) and Welwyn Garden City (40 mins). There are other buses to St Albans from: Harpenden (15 mins), Hatfield (25 mins), Watford (30 mins), Welwyn Garden City (40 mins), Luton (40 mins), Borehamwood (40 mins), Potters Bar (45 mins), Rickmansworth (55 mins), Hitchin (55 mins), Hertford (70 mins) and Harlow (95 mins).

About Verulamium Park

The 100 acre park was once the site of the Roman city Verulamium and you can still visit the ruined hypocaust (mosaic and underfloor heating), ruined theatre and a modern museum. The park also has: a Roman themed children's play area, lake, river, nature walks, splash park, model boat lake, mini golf, trampolines, volley ball, leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, spa and views of the St Albans Cathedral and Abbey Church.

Entry to the park and hypocaust is free, pay for other attractions.
