Visit Saltram car-free
It’s easy to visit Saltram car-free.
Buses from Plymouth city centre take about 10 minutes and drop you at the outer edge of the Saltram estate. From there, you can choose to walk either a 30-minute footpath through parkland or a 45-minute route along the river.
Buses also run from Paignton (80 mins), Totnes (55 mins) and Ivybridge (25 mins).
Trains run to Plymouth from: Bodmin Parkway (40 mins), Exeter (60 mins), Liskeard (25 mins), Par (50 mins), Taunton (80 mins) and other towns nearby.
Buses run to Plymouth from: Callington (45 mins), Launceston (90 mins) and Tavistock (60 mins).

Cycle path National Route 27 goes past Saltram from Plymouth on the Riverside cycle trail. Saltram is about 3 miles from central Plymouth, so the bike ride is about 20 minutes. The Plym Valley Rail Trail is North of Saltram.
You can hire Beryl Bikes at Saltram and in other locations around Plymouth.
Footpath Drake’s Trail passes Saltram as it heads North from Plymouth to Tavistock. E-Route 9 goes South. Saltram also has a Pillars Walk and Boundary Walk.

Here's our recommended route to Saltram. To get bus and train times and walking routes use our journey planner.
By bus from Plymouth city centre
It’s about a 10-minute bus ride from Plymouth Royal Parade. You have a range of options:
GOLD bus (frequent, less on Sundays) from Stop A13, 10 mins to Sugar Mill (walk 45 mins by the river). Buses head towards Paignton.
Bus 200 (frequent, 6 days) from Stop A 14, 5 mins to Grenville Road (walk 55 mins by the river) or 15 mins to Plymouth Road (walk 30 mins by footpath). Buses run from Charles Street to Coypool.
Bus 20A (regular) from Stop A13, 15 mins to Plymouth Road (walk 30 mins by footpath). Buses head towards Ivybridge.
Bus 20 (regular, 6 days) from Stop A13, 5 mins to Grenville Road (walk 55 mins by the river). Buses head towards Ivybridge.
By bus from areas around Plymouth
By bus from Paignton, Totnes or Ivybridge
GOLD bus runs frequent, less on Sundays.
Buses leave from:
- Paignton bus and train station stand 3 (about 80 mins)
- Totnes train station stop C or Shinners Bridge (55 mins)
- Ivybridge BP Garage stop B or Palace Lane (25 mins)
Jump off at either Stentaway Road (walk 45 mins by lane) or Morley Arms (walk 45 mins by the river).
Bus 20 also goes from Ivybridge BP Garage stop B or the train station. The journey takes about 25 minutes. Jump off at Marsh Mills. It’s then about a 30-minute walk along pavements and footpaths.
