About New Wolsey Theatre

The New Wolsey Theatre is a 400 seat theatre with a café & bar in Ipswich. We combine our own productions, projects, collaborations with other partners and touring work, to create spectacular programmes of performances and creative learning projects of the highest quality, maximum diversity and greatest possible accessibility.

We produce at least 4 of our own produced main-stage shows every year, with one specifically designed to showcase local emerging talent. Our main production each year is our hugely popular Rock ‘n Roll pantomime, with talented actor-musicians entertaining audiences for around 2 months – one of the longest pantos in the country!

The theatre is located on the outskirts of the town centre, a 15-minute walk away from Ipswich train station. It was originally opened in 1979 as The Wolsey Theatre and reopened in 2001 as The New Wolsey Theatre after a two-year closure.
