Visit Kingston Lacy car-free

Visit by bus for just £2 each way. Most buses in England are offering £2 Single Fares until 31st December 2024. Our journey planner will show you if your route is included, or you can find a full list of participating operators and routes here.

It’s quite easy to visit Kingston Lacy car-free.

Buses run to the nearest town, Wimborne Minster from: Poole (40 mins) and Bournemouth (50 mins).

From Wimborne Minster you can then book a taxi (5-10 mins) or take one of a few buses which stop right at Kingston lacy house (10 mins).

Taxi companies you can book from Wimborne include: Minster – 01202 88 88 88, CWRC – 01202 88 88 10, Canford – 01202 88 66 66 or Elite – 01202 030 244.

Taxis usually wait at Bournemouth and Poole train stations, but book ahead with: United – 01202 556 677, PRC Streamline – 01202 373 737 or Ariel – 01202 747 333.

A Bournemouth and Poole PlusBus train ticket gives you unlimited bus travel as far as Wimborne Minster.

Cycle route National Route 25 goes to Wimborne Minster from Blandford Forum.

Wimborne is 20-minutes away by bike and you can hire Beryl Bikes there.

Kingston Lacy has it’s own woodland cycle track.

Plan your cycle route here and enter via the kitchen garden entrance. Once you have arrived please head straight to our Visitor Reception to scan your National Trust membership card or pay admission to support the National Trusts conservation work which allows access to these special places.

Footpath the Hardy Way and other footpaths pass around Kingston Lacy from Blandford Road and Cowgrove Road.

About Kingston Lacy

House: A lavish family home, re-imagined as a Venetian Palace, in the Dorset countryside.

Garden: Classic English garden with Fernery, herbaceous borders, formal Parterre and Kitchen Garden, surrounded by Japanese-inspired planting and colourful woodland.

Parkland: Acres of parkland surround the house, grazed by the pedigree Red Ruby Devon cattle and rare breed Portland sheep.

Heathland: Holt Heath is one of the largest remaining areas of heathland in Dorset, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Play areas: Two play areas, one featuring natural play in the woodland and the second in the Kitchen Garden. Both include a variety of features, including accessible play.

Eating: Stables Café serving a range of drinks, light lunches and takeaways; takeaway kiosk in the Kitchen Garden.

Shopping: Shop selling a range of gifts, accessories, food and drink, plants and books. Second-hand bookshop.
