How to get toColchester Zoocar-free

Visit Colchester Zoo car-free

Visit by bus for just £2 each way. Most buses in England are offering £2 Single Fares until 31st December 2024. Our journey planner will show you if your route is included, or you can find a full list of participating operators and routes here.

Hop on bus 75 from Colchester Osborne Street Bus Station (stop Af) for the about 15-minute ride to Colchester Zoo. Buses run regularly (less on Sundays). You can also catch this bus from Maldon and Tiptree. There are bus connections at Colchester from Chelmsford, Clacton, Halstead, Harwich, Ipswich, Manningtree, Sudbury and West Mersea.

There are direct trains to Colchester from London Liverpool Street via Chelmsford and Witham, from Norwich and Ipswich, and from Clacton and Walton. There are also connections from the Harwich, Felixstowe and Lowestoft branch lines. From Colchester train station walk (about 30 mins) or take a bus into the town to catch bus 75 from Osborne Street Bus Station or take a train to Colchester Town, which is very close to Osborne Street.

Colchester Zoo is home to 200 species set in 60 acres of parkland and lakes. There are many different habitats, from the humid home of the Komodo Dragons, to the Africa plain that is home to white rhino, giraffes, ostrich, zebra and kudu. Walk through and undercover areas, such as the tropical aviary, offering shelter on wet days.
