Visit RHS Garden Hyde Hall car-free
It’s just half an hour’s train ride from London or Colchester to Chelmsford. From Chelmsford Bus 3 runs a few times a day on Saturdays (a couple per day on weekdays). If you’re coming on a Sunday, or for convenience, you can take the train to South Woodham Ferrers and then a taxi to the Garden.

Hyde Hall welcomes cyclists. The Garden is a 3-mile cycle from South Woodham Ferrers rail station. Plan your cycle route here.
There is a taxi rank at Chelmsford station – the fare to Hyde Hall is about £25.

Getting to RHS Garden Hyde Hall car-free

By shuttle via Shenfield (22 July-3 Sept)
Trains run direct to Shenfield from stations on the Elizabeth Line from London Paddington. Trains also run from London Liverpool Street, Stratford and stations to Southend. There are also trains from many station in Essex and East Anglia, including Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester, Clacton and Ipswich.
Turn left out of Shenfield station to the bus stop on Hutton Road. The bus stop is just a minute’s walk and is marked ‘Shenfield Station’ – here’s a map.
Shuttle buses run daily from 22 July to 3rd September direct to Hyde Hall, at 10am and 11.30am and must be booked in advance. Full details on RHS website.
By bus
Bus 3 runs from Chelmsford Bus Station (Stand 1) to RHS Hyde Hall, also Battlesbridge, Rayleigh, Leigh-on-Sea and Southend. The service, operated by First Essex Bus, runs a few times a day on Saturdays (a couple of weekdays and none on Sunday). The journey takes about 25 minutes – ask the driver where to get off.
Via Chelmsford
Trains run direct to Chelmsford from London Liverpool Street, also from Norwich, Ipswich, Clacton and Colchester.
It’s then a 2-minute walk to Chelmsford bus station.
Bus 3 (run by First Essex Bus) leaves from Stand 1 at the bus station. Buses run a few times a day on Saturdays (a couple on weekdays and none on Sundays). The journey takes about 25 minutes – ask the driver where to get off.
Via South Woodham Ferrers
On Sundays, or if the bus times aren’t convenient, you can catch the train to South Woodham Ferrers and take a short taxi ride to the garden. Happicabs offer a set of £15, please call 01245 321321 to book.
