Visit New Lanark car-free
It’s easy to reach New Lanark (near Lanark) car-free. In fact it is much easier, since there is no car parking in the village.
Bus 135 runs regularly (Monday to Friday) from Lanark Bus Station (Stance D, outside the train station). The journey takes 5-10 minutes. Hop off at the visitor centre. Otherwise, it is about a half-hour walk.
There are direct trains to Lanark from Glasgow (50 mins) and Carluke (10 mins). Change at Carluke from Edinburgh (35 mins). Buses run from: Carluke (15 mins), Livingston (65 mins) and Glasgow (65 mins).

About New Lanark
This UNESCO site was an 18th centaury cotton spinning mill (now hydro-electric), set in a woodland nature reserve with 3 waterfalls. Learn the history of mill owners such as socialist Robert Owen and members of the Quakers. Visit examples of their experimental classrooms, houses and workplaces. There is also a hotel and hostel.
