By train
Blantyre Station is just a 10-minute walk from the Museum. Frequent ScotRail trains run from Glasgow Central, Larkhall and Motherwell, with through trains from stations north of the City.
By bus from Glasgow
Bus 267 departs more frequently and stops closer, but the journey is more leisurely. The bus leaves Glasgow’s Buchanan Street Bus Station (Stance 20) for the 55-minute journey via Rutherglen to Blantyre. You can also catch bus 267 from Hamilton Bus Station. Buses run every 15 minutes (every 20 to 30 minutes on Sundays).
Otherwise, bus 263 from Glasgow (Stance 8) to Hamilton bus stations. It is quicker, but less frequent, with a slightly longer walk at the end. Buses run every 30 minutes, and take 30 minutes too.
If you took bus 267, then hop off at Priory Street for a 15-minute walk along Station Road to the Museum.
If you took bus 263, then hop off at Calder Street for a 20-minute walk.
By bus from Hairmyres, Glasgow
Bus 205 from Hairmyres Hospital run Hamilton Torr Farm, via Blantyre. It leaves hourly, and take 30 minutes.
The walk from Priory Street bus stop takes 20 minutes.
By bus from elsewhere
You can reach Higher Blantyre on bus 201 from Airdrie, Coatbridge and Motherwell, also from East Kilbride. Buses run every 15 minutes (every 20 to 30 minutes on Sundays).
Hop off at Larkfield Drive or Victoria Street stops for a 30 minute walk to the Museum.

The museum’s stunning exhibition showcases Livingstone’s life, from his birth in Blantyre to his death in Zambia. Learn about the Scottish missionary, activist, and explorer, and travel with him from Scotland to Southern and Central Africa. Meet the people who played a pivotal part in Livingstone’s life and expeditions, before reflecting on his legacy.
The museum is set in acres of beautiful park land and includes nature trails, the Livingstone and Lion sculpture, and the exciting play park, inspired by Livingstone’s steamboat and his journeys down African rivers - children are encouraged to set sail!
The museum’s shop has a wide range of gifts inspired by Livingstone and Sub-Saharan Africa. Livingstone’s Café, which is open 7 days a week, offers hot and cold food and delicious cakes.
