It’s quite easy to visit Landguard Fort car-free.
Buses run to the door from Ipswich (60 mins).
Trains run to Felixstowe from Ipswich (25 mins) and you can then change for the bus (15 mins) or walk along the Prom (60 mins).
Buses also run to Felixstowe from Woodbridge (40 mins) and you can then change for the bus (15 mins).

Scenic East Suffolk Line trains bring you to Felixstowe from Ipswich. You can enliven your journey with an audio tour. Travelling onwards through the Landguard nature reserve.

By bus from Ipswich
Bus 77 runs direct from Ipswich to Landguard Fort. Buses leave from Ipswich Old Cattle Market bus station regularly. The journey takes about 60 minutes. Jump off at Landguard Fort.
Bus 75 leaves from Ipswich Old Cattle Market bus station frequently. The journey takes about 60 minutes. Jump off at Princess Gardens. It’s then about a 50-minute walk, Right along Princes Road, South Hill and The Promenade.
By train from Ipswich
There are regular, direct trains to Felixstowe from Ipswich (25 mins).
Bus 77 runs direct from the train station to Landguard Fort. Walk for a couple of minutes across the carpark. Buses leave from Great Eastern Square regularly. The journey takes about 15 minutes. Jump off at Landguard Fort.
Alternatively, the train station at Felixstowe town centre is 2½ miles away from Landguard Fort, about a 60-minute walk across the carpark, then Right along Hemingford Road and Left along The Promenade.
By bus from Woodbridge
To get to Landguard Fort from Woodbridge you can either go into Ipswich and out again, or try one of these direct routes.
Bus 73 runs from Woodbridge to Felixstowe. Jump off at the Church on Princes Road. The journey takes about 40 minutes. Next, take a 50-minute walk, Right along Princes Road, South Hill and The Promenade.
You can also take bus 73 to Cornwall Road. Walk for 5-10 minutes to the Great Eastern Square bus stops. Change for bus 77, which leaves regularly. The journey takes about 15 minutes. Jump off at Landguard Fort.
By ferry
Ferries run from Harwich and Shotley direct to Landguard Fort.
