It’s easy to reach American Museum & Gardens car-free. It’s at the University of Bath.

Bus U1 runs frequently from Dorchester Street, very near Bath Spa train station. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Hop off at The Avenue. It’s then a 10-15 minute stroll to American Museum and Gardens. Bus U2 and bus 20 leave from Rossiter Road, and bus 22 from Twerton area.

There are direct trains to Bath Spa train station from: Bristol Temple Meads (about 15 mins), Reading, Salisbury (both 55 mins), Cardiff (65 mins), Gloucester (70 mins), London (85 mins) and Portsmouth (2 hrs). When you travel by train, a Bath Spa PlusBus ticket offers unlimited travel around the city by bus.

There are frequent buses to Bath from around Bath, Bristol (55 mins) and Wells (100 mins).

The American Museum has collections of patchwork quilts, Shaker furniture, period rooms and heritage exhibitions, exploring the pre-1880s history and culture of the United States. Thirty acres of lovely gardens include a reconstruction of George Washington’s Mount Vernon garden and an arboretum.
