By bus from Kendal and Windermere
Bus 555 runs regularly every day from Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside to Grasmere. It’s an about 55-minute ride from Kendal, or 35 minutes from Windermere. Bus 555 also runs from Lancaster and Carnforth, with connections from Barrow or Ulverston (bus 6) and Coniston (bus 505).
Open-Top bus 599 runs from Kendal (some journeys), Bowness Pier, Windermere and Ambleside to Grasmere, frequently in summer, regularly in winter, 7 days a week.
Get off at Dove Cottage stop in Grasmere, just a 2-minute walk from Wordsworth Grasmere.
By bus from Keswick
Bus 555 runs regularly from Keswick to Grasmere every day, taking just about 30 minutes. Bus X4 / X5 offer connections to Keswick from Penrith, Workington and Cockermouth. There are also connections at Keswick from Carlisle and Wigton by bus 554.
By train
The nearest station is Windermere, with regular trains from Manchester, Preston, Lancaster and Oxenholme. There are connections from London and all cities in the North of England.
