View the River Itchen as you travel between Southampton and Winchester (15 mins). There are also scenic train rides from Southampton to Salisbury (35 mins) and Bournemouth (25 mins). There are various scenic bus rides to choose from both Southampton and Winchester, such as the bus from Winchester to Alton (50 mins).
Cycle path National Route 23 runs between Southampton and Winchester. Plan your cycle route with these links to Southampton or Winchester.
Footpaths abound in Winchester: there’s the South Downs Way National Trail, Pilgrim’s Way, Three Castles Path, Allan King Way, St Swithun’s Way and the Clarendon Way.
There are also walking routes in Southampton.

- Berkshire & Oxfordshire: Oxford (70 mins), Reading (35 mins)
- Dorset: Bournemouth (55 mins), Weymouth (85 mins),
- Further: Birmingham New Street (2.5 hrs) and Manchester Piccadilly (4 hrs).
Walk for 5-10 minutes along Station Road and the High Street to the front of the Westgate Register Office, Castle Hill, Winchester, SO23 8UH.
Southampton by train
There are direct trains to Southampton Central from:

- Hampshire: Winchester (15 mins), Basingstoke (30 mins), Portsmouth (30 mins),
- Berkshire & Oxfordshire: Oxford (90 mins), Reading (50 mins)

Walk for about 15 minutes to the outside of Starbucks at Town Quay Pier, Southampton, SO14 2AQ.
Winchester by bus
Frequent buses run to Winchester city from Southampton (bus 1, about 55 mins) and regular buses from Fareham (bus 69, 100 mins) and elsewhere. View the Hampshire bus map.
From the bus station, walk for 10-15 minutes along the High Street to the front of the Westgate Register Office, Castle Hill, Winchester, SO23 8UH.
Southampton by bus
Frequent buses run to Southampton city from Winchester (bus 1, about 55 mins) and regular buses from Hythe (bus 8 and bus 9, 45 mins), Lymington (bus 6, 70 mins) and Salisbury (bus X7, 70 mins) and elsewhere. View the Hampshire bus map.
