It’s easy to reach Quarry Bank car-free. There are hourly direct trains from Manchester and Crewe to Styal, taking about 30 mins. It’s then a 10-minute stroll to Quarry Bank.
There are connecting trains from Stockport, Warrington, Lancaster, Leeds, Stoke-on-Trent, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Sheffield and many other places.

From Manchester
Direct trains run from Manchester Piccadilly (calling at Mauldeth Road, Burnage, East Didsbury, Gatley, Heald Green and Manchester Airport) to Styal. Trains run hourly and the journey takes about 30 minutes.
There are connecting trains from: Warrington Central (about 25 mins) New Mills (35 mins), Huddersfield (40 mins), Preston (40 mins), Lancaster (60 mins) and Leeds (65 mins).
From Styal, it’s a 10-15 minute stroll along Station Road and Holt’s Lane.
From Crewe
Trains run hourly from Crewe (calling at Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow) to Styal, taking about 30 minutes.
There are connecting trains from: Stafford (about 15 mins), Stoke-on-Trent (20 mins), Chester (20 mins), Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton (35 mins), Liverpool (45 mins) and Birmingham (55 mins).
Then, it’s a 10-15 minute stroll along Station Road and Holt’s Lane.
From Stockport
Frequent trains run from Stockport to Wilmslow (about 10 mins). There are connecting trains from Macclesfield, Hazel Grove (about 10 mins), Sheffield (40 mins) and Buxton (45 mins).
Connecting train run hourly from Wilmslow to Styal, taking about 5 mins.
Then, it’s a 10-15 minute stroll along Station Road and Holt’s Lane.

By contrast, take a guided tour of the Apprentice House to step into the lives of the pauper children who worked in the mill. Stroll to Styal village to see how many of the other workers lived.
On the estate there are acres of woodland to explore. Follow the meandering path of the river Bollin and cross the folly bridges as you look out for an array of wildlife and beautiful views.
