Visit NT Dunstable Downs and Whipsnade Estate car-free
Catch bus 40/40A from Dunstable (ASDA, Stop J1) for the short journey to Dunstable Downs (Chiltern Gateway Centre). Regular service Mondays to Saturdays (not Sundays).
Alternatively it’s about 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Dunstable to the northern access point to the Downs, at the junction of West Street and Whipsnade Road. It’s a further 30 minutes’ walk along on Downs footpaths to the Chiltern Gateway Centre.
There are frequent local buses to Dunstable from the surrounding towns of Aylesbury, Luton, Milton Keynes via Bletchley and Leighton Buzzard, also St Albans.
The nearest station is Luton, with direct Thameslink trains from Bedford and London St Pancras, as well as stations in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. East Midlands trains run from Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough. Bus A, bus B and bus C run every few minutes from Stand 10 for the short ride to Dunstable.

The highest point in Bedfordshire, with spectacular views of rolling chalk grasslands. Part of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with several Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and two scheduled ancient monuments. Miles of footpaths and several circular walks. Ideal spot for kite flying. Chilterns Gateway Centre with View Café and NT Shop.
