Travel a greener way with a combined bus and boat ticket.
It’s easy to visit car-free, as the main cruise start-point is 10-15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Keswick. There are footpaths and buses to other jetties – see map.
Buses run to Keswick from: Ambleside (45 mins), Penrith (40 mins), Windermere (65 mins) and other towns.
Trains run to Penrith from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester in about 90 minutes. You can then change for the bus to Keswick.

PlusBus train tickets offer unlimited travel within a defined area. While not valid for the boat trips, they do work for other day-trips. Windermere PlusBus tickets are valid across Windermere and Gasmere. Kendal/Oxenholme, Whitehaven and Barrow PlusBus tickets are valid within the towns.

There are direct buses to Keswick from:

- Cockermouth (about 30 mins, bus X4 and X5)
- Grasmere (35 mins, bus 555)
- Kendal (95 mins, bus 555)
- Penrith (40 mins, bus X4 and X5)
- Seatoller (30 mins/40 mins, bus 78)
- Windermere (65 mins, bus 555)
- Wigton (45 mins, bus 554)
- Workington (50 mins, bus X4 and X5)
Previously there have been weekend services from: Carlisle (70 mins), Chorley (3 hrs), Preston (2 hrs), Lancaster park and ride (1.5 hrs) and Windermere (1 hr). Check our journey planner to see if these are running.
Bus 509 runs on weekends from Pooley Bridge, Ullswater (45 mins)
It’s a 10-15 minute walk from Keswick bus station to Keswick Launch. This town map shows footpaths through Crown Park. The bus station is located near the supermarket.
By train
There are direct trains to Penrith from:
- Cumbria: Carlisle (15 mins), Oxenholme (25 mins),
- Lancashire: Lancaster (40 mins), Preston (55 mins),
- Scotland: Lockerbie (35 mins), Edinburgh (90 mins), Glasgow (90 mins),
- England: Manchester Piccadilly (90 mins) and London Euston (3/4 hrs).
Hop on the X4/X5 bus. Buses leave regularly from Penrith Station (Stand 3). The journey takes about 40 minutes.
