It’s quite easy to reach Helmsley Walled Garden car-free by bus from Scarborough.

Bus 128 runs a few times a day (less on Sunday) from Scarborough train station (Stop U). The journey takes about 105 minutes. Get off at the last stop, Helmsley Market Place. It’s then about a 5-minute stroll to Helmsley Walled Garden. Bus 128 also stops in Seamer (90 mins) and Pickering (45 mins).

There are direct trains to Scarborough from York (about 50 mins), Hull (80 mins), Sheffield and Leeds.
