It’s easy enough to visit Hedingham Castle car-free.
Buses stop 5 minutes’ walk away from Braintree (45 mins, 6 days per week) and Sudbury (15 mins, weekdays).

When you travel by train, Braintree and Colchester PlusBus tickets allow you to explore within the towns, but not as far as Hedingham Castle.
Heritage train rides are available in Castle Hedingham at Colne Valley Railway.
Scenic railway, the Flitch Line runs from Witham to Braintree. Listen to talking benches while you wait, or try some kid’s activities on the journey.

By bus and train from Braintree
Trains run direct to Braintree from:
- Essex: Chelmsford (30 mins), Shenfield (40 mins) and Witham (15 mins).
- London: Liverpool Street (65 mins) and Stratford (55 mins).
Change at Witham from: Clacton (40 mins), Colchester or Colchester Town (15 mins), Ipswich (35 mins), Manningtree (25 mins) or Thorpe-le-Soken (30 mins).

Hop on bus 89 ‘Seasiders’ or bus 60 at Braintree train station for the about 45-minute journey to Castle Hedingham. Jump off at The Bell for a 5-minute walk to the Castle. Buses run regularly (except Sundays).
By bus and train from Sudbury
There are direct trains to Marks Tey from-
- Essex: Colchester (about 5 mins), Witham (10 mins) and Chelmsford (25 mins).
- London: Shenfield (35 mins), Stratford (50 mins) and London Liverpool Street (60 mins, connected to Moorgate train station via tunnel).
Connections: Change at Colchester to get to Marks Tey from Ipswich (20 mins) or Norwich (60 mins).
