Visit Elgin Cathedral car-free

It’s easy to visit car-free, as the cathedral is located in Elgin city-centre.
Trains run direct from: Inverness (45 mins), Aberdeen (85 mins) and all stations in between. Forres, Keith and Nairn are each under half an hour away. It’s then about a 15-minute walk.
Buses run direct from: Dufftown (45 mins), Cullen (90 mins) and Banff (2 hrs), followed by a 10-minute walk.

By train
There are direct trains to Elgin from:
- Highland: Inverness (45 mins), Nairn (25 mins).
- Moray: Forres (15 mins).
- Aberdeenshire: Aberdeen (85 mins), Dyce (75 mins), Insch station museum (50 mins), Inverurie (60 mins), Huntly & Huntly Castle (35 mins), Keith (20 mins), Kintore (70 mins)
Search for train times and cheaper tickets with Good Journey.
It’s then about a 15-minute stroll along Moss Street, Institution Road and King Street.
By bus
There are direct buses to Elgin from:
- Highland:

- Aberlour (bus 36, 30 mins)
- Burghead (bus 32, 25 mins)
- Cullen (scenic bus 35, 90 mins)

- Forres (buses M96, 10 or 12, 20-35 mins)
- Findhorn (bus 32, 50 mins)
- Kingston on Spey (bus 334, 40 mins)
- Aberdeenshire:
- Banff (scenic bus 35, 2 hrs) – visit Duff House
- Huntly (bus 10 or bus M96, 50-60 mins) – visit Huntly Castle
- Inverurie (bus 10, 100 mins)
- Keith (bus 10 or bus M96, 30-40 mins)
Some buses pass the cathedral – if you see it, jump off at the next stop. Otherwise wait to arrive at the bus station.
It’s a 10-minute stroll to the cathedral, along Alexandra Road as far as the library, and through the park.
