Visit Centre for Alternative Technology car-free
There are direct trains to Machynlleth from Aberystwyth, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury, and from local stations on the Cambrian Coast Line. Buses from Machynlleth station run roughly hourly and stop a short walk from CAT.

National Route 8 runs right past CAT – on it’s long and hilly journey up Wales. You can bring your bike on the train and cycle from Machynlleth station to CAT in about half an hour. Plan your cycle route here.
It’s a 3-mile walk to CAT from Machynlleth, mostly along a quite lane (allow 90 minutes) – here’s the route.

By bus
From Machynlleth
Bus 34 and Bus T2 both run to CAT from Machynlleth Town Centre (Clock) and from opposite the train station (outside Bus Depot). Buses run regularly (only bus T2 runs on Sundays). Bus T2 stops at Pantperthog, on the A487, a 7-minute ride from Machynlleth. It’s then a 10-minute walk to CAT from the bus stop. Bus 34 bus stops nearer the entrance to CAT – ask the driver.
From other towns
Bus T2 runs to CAT from Aberystwyth, also from Bangor, Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Dolgellau. Buses run every couple of (fewer on Sundays). Alight at Pantperthog.
There are connections at Aberystwyth with bus T1 from Carmarthen, Lampeter and Aberaeron, and with bus T5 from Haverfordwest, Fishguard, Cardigan and Aberaeron. There are also connections at Dolgellau with bus T3 from Wrexham, Llangollen, Corwen and Bala. For more details visit TrawsCymru.
By train
Trains run direct to Machynlleth from Birmingham via Wolverhampton, Telford, Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Newtown and Caersws, from Aberystwyth, also from Pwllheli via Harlech and Barmouth. Trains run every couple of hours.
